每个专利文件都有自己的保护范围，即权利要求的限定范围，而其范围还需要用说明书来对技术特征进行具体详细描述。尽管是同一类产品（或工艺等客体），在不同的专利文件中要求保护的范围（或者说发明要点）是不同的，否则就是重复授权，后授权的专利无效。
因此，在描述中经常说到“according to limited aspect of the invention”等措辞，意即“根据本发明所限定的技术特征”之意思，也可译成“根据本发明所述的XXXX”等类似的措辞来表示是本发明所涉及的范围（技术特征）。
